First Chapter – The Start Of My Story..

Out on the deck in the sun with the laptop

What does home sound like to you?

For me, it’s the soft scratch of a record needle, the hiss of the kettle just before it sings, the quiet turning of a page, and the rustle of wind against our little caravan.

Home isn’t just a place.

It’s a feeling — a rhythm, a soundtrack, a story.

Welcome to The Soundtrack of Home.

This blog was born from two things I treasure: stories and stillness.

I live in a static caravan in the west of Scotland with my husband (a tiler with dreams of Italian sunshine) and together we’re slowly, intentionally shaping a life that feels like our own — simple, soulful, and filled with the things we love most: books, music, memory, and meaning.

Why this blog?

Because the internet is full of polished perfection — but I wanted to create a quiet corner where slow living is celebrated, not rushed. A space for:

  • The sound of real life (yes, even when it’s messy)
  • The journey of creating a home with what you have
  • The pull of dreams — like planning our move to Italy
  • And the magic of ordinary days that deserve to be noticed

I’ve always loved the overlap between sound and story. The way a certain song takes you right back to a kitchen in 2009. Or how turning on fairy lights in winter makes your whole chest soften. These are the moments I want to capture — and share — as we slowly build our next chapter.

What you’ll find here

In The Soundtrack of Home, you’ll find:

  • Cozy corners from our real-life home (yes, even without a bath!)
  • Books that feel like warm bread
  • Sounds that shape memory
  • Our slow journey to Italy
  • Dreams, plans, and personal rituals
  • Free downloads like vision boards to help shape your own home story

Whether you’re here for the music, the stories, or the slow pace — I’m so glad you’ve found your way in.

Put the kettle on. There’s room for you here.

With warmth,

Jo Hainey x
